About The Position

Teaching Fellows are responsible for instructing their own courses, working under the supervision of department or program chairs. They may also participate in college faculty orientations. Teaching Fellows can teach courses in their own disciplines, interdisciplinary subjects, or courses focused on developing research skills and proficiencies like mathematics and statistical methods. The specific teaching positions available and other relevant information can be found on the Provost’s Office’s Teaching Fellowship webpage. While the Provost’s Office manages the application process, departments and programs that sponsor these courses make the final hiring decisions. Graduate students can only hold one Teaching Fellowship per semester but may have additional appointments as Teaching, Research, or Course Assistants, provided their combined work hours comply with the Policy on Maximum Student Employment. The application and selection process for Teaching Assistants occurs in the spring semester.

Requirements

Must be accepted into a doctoral degree program at The New School (for students in programs offering doctoral degrees).
Must be matriculated (enrolled in courses or maintaining status) in the semester(s) in which they will be Teaching Fellows.
May not have a grade of "incomplete" for more than one third of their courses.
Must have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4.
Must be within the time limit for attaining their degree.

Prior teaching experience.
Previous conferral of a master’s degree.

Responsibilities

Instruct courses as the instructor of record, assuming independent responsibility for these classes.
Participate in college faculty orientations.
Lead courses within their own disciplines or in related, interdisciplinary subjects.
Teach courses designed to develop research skills and other proficiencies, such as mathematics and statistical methods.
