About The Position

The Department of Mathematics is accepting applications for Unit 11 Teaching Associate positions for the Fall 2026. This role involves providing classroom instruction for MATH 115: College Algebra, attending assigned class times, and leading classroom discussions under the supervision of a faculty member. The Teaching Associate will also prepare course materials, maintain subject matter expertise, and assess student performance. Additionally, the position requires holding weekly office hours to assist students and participating in mandatory meetings and training workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction for course number MATH 115.
  • Attends every class time and leads classroom discussion under supervision of faculty member.
  • Prepares syllabus, lesson plan and course materials collaboratively for each class.
  • Maintains expertise in subject area.
  • Identifies course requirements and reading materials for students.
  • Makes assignments to students such as homework assignments, quizzes, exams, reports, etc.
  • Reads and stays current with recent developments in the field.
  • Assesses student performance and determines course grades for each student.
  • Determines grading scale and grading criteria for all assignments.
  • Grades student work using well defined grading rubric.
  • Determines overall course grade for each student.
  • Holds weekly office hours and provides assistance to students as needed.
  • Attends mandatory meetings on Tuesdays 1:00 pm-2:15 pm and Thursdays, September 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
  • Fully participates in the Math Teaching Associate Training Workshop on August 25, 2026 and another date in August 2026.
