About The Position
Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher. This role involves working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects, providing teachers with information about pupils to aid in the development of learning experiences, and assisting pupils in the use of instructional resources and materials. Teaching Assistants may also utilize their skills in instructional programs such as foreign language, arts, crafts, and music, and assist with related instructional work and specific health-related activities as appropriate. Local bargaining agreements may further define the specific duties and terms of employment for Teaching Assistants, ensuring consistency with applicable law and regulation.
Requirements
- Experience as a Teacher Assistant
- Familiarity with school administrative tasks and learning methods
- Great communication and organizational skills
- Cool-tempered and positive attitude
- Firm but kind personality
- A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers and parents
- Certification required, Pre-Professional or Continuing Teacher Assistant Certificates.
Nice To Haves
- College or associate’s degree is preferred
Responsibilities
- Help teachers prepare lesson plans
- Set up necessary material for classes
- Track student attendance and class schedules
- Review material taught in class with individual students with learning challenges
- Work with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process
- Escort and supervise students in field trips and school activities
- Make sure classrooms are safe and tidy before classes start
- Assist teachers with various tasks, like grading assignments and informing parents of their children’s progress
- Help students adjust, learn and socialize and report to teachers about possible behavioral issues
