About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the COMM 2P50: Communication Theory course for the Winter D3 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on the employee's qualifications, with two pay rates: an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026) for those without a 4-year honours or 3-year pass degree, and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026) for those with such a degree. Additional duties beyond scheduled contact time will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement and include scheduled student contact time and non-classroom activities such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • An Honours BA in Communication Studies, or an equivalent program, is required.
  • Candidates must have completed the course in question, or a university-level equivalent, with a minimum final grade of 75%.
  • If seeking consideration for an equivalency, the candidate must identify the course and supply two documents: (1) a copy of the course outline and (2) the candidate's transcript showing the course and grade. Failure to provide one or both documents will result in an incomplete application.
  • Candidates must supply evidence of strong writing skills (i.e., university-level papers, relevant awards, or publications).
  • Candidates must have strong interpersonal and group communication skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate professionalism when supporting course content, leading seminars, and meeting deadlines.
