About The Position

The Center for Disability Services is seeking Teaching Assistants to join their Langan School in Albany, NY. For 80 years, they have been one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals who have disabilities, offering innovative programs and vital services not available elsewhere. Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• College credits preferred.
• Will be required to obtain their NYS Teaching Assistant Certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists in instructional activities as directed by the teacher, including direct instruction of students.
• May assume responsibility for the class when the teacher is absent or unavailable.
• Follows mobility, dining, and direct care protocols as directed by the teacher or therapist and as noted on individual fact sheets.
• Assists with the management needs of students, including performing duties related to activities of daily living (toileting, diapering, washing, tooth brushing), dress/undress, putting on/removing adaptive equipment, and setting up students’ learning environment.
• Carries out therapeutic goals within classroom activities as directed by and in conjunction with the therapist, including systematic lifting and positioning of students and application and removal of equipment.
• Records data and monitors student responses as directed by the teacher or other team professionals.
• Follows behavioral plans/intervention techniques for assigned students, as directed by the teacher, school psychologist, and/or behavior support staff.
