Achievers Early College Prep Charter School (AECP) is New Jersey’s first public charter school for students in grades 6-12 that provides them with the unique opportunity to take a course of study in STEM fields and Digital Media Arts following the 8th grade and earn up to 60 college credits, enabling students to redefine the high school experience and graduate with skills, experiences, and content mastery that’s significant to them in the market place and the world beyond. This role involves providing substitute teaching coverage, potentially teaching one class or small groups of students, and periodically planning and delivering instruction. The Teaching Assistant will develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school. Responsibilities include supporting students with one-on-one and small group tutoring, intervention, and student support. The role also involves observing Master Teachers, meeting with a coach for feedback, teaching or coordinating an Enrichment class, and assisting teachers with instruction, assessments, and grading. As appropriate, the Teaching Assistant will perform duties expected of classroom teachers, including implementing curricula, designing and implementing assessments, using data to refine instruction, participating in collaborative curriculum development and school-wide functions, providing behavior management, serving as an advisor, co-leading advisory/homeroom, supervising students during transitions and breaks, and being accountable for student mastery of academic standards. Effective communication with students, families, and colleagues is essential, as is participation in an annual three-week staff orientation and training.
