About The Position

The Community Group Teaching Fellows’ Program (Pre-K– 8) is designed to give children the tools they need to succeed in life while providing fellows with the experience and training necessary to become permanent classroom teachers. Many past Teaching Fellows have been rehired as fully salaried classroom teachers after their year of experience and training. Participants will learn from outstanding educational practitioners and become part of the movement to transform education in Lawrence and in America. This program emphasizes preparing children for success throughout their lives by involving fellows in planning and delivering daily classroom lessons, providing small group instruction, sharing classroom management, and engaging in parent conferencing. Fellows will gain classroom experience under the guidance of highly experienced lead teachers and administrators, work in a collaborative environment, contribute to student academic achievement, and participate in high-quality professional development.

Requirements

  • Successful college history with an associate's or bachelor's degree
  • Hold a valid work authorization to work in the USA

Responsibilities

  • Be involved in planning, delivering daily classroom lessons, and providing small group instruction based on students' assessed learning needs
  • Share classroom management responsibilities
  • Be involved directly in parent conferencing
  • Gain classroom experience under the guidance of and in collaboration with highly experienced and qualified lead teachers and administrators
  • Work in an exceptionally collaborative environment where teaming is paramount
  • Contribute to the academic achievement of students in your classroom
  • Participate in high-quality professional development alongside practitioners from the nationally acclaimed charter network
  • Have opportunities to receive additional stipends by leading student-centered after-school activities
  • Be considered for permanent teaching placement within The Community Group’s Charter School network
  • Participate in co-teaching activities in the classroom, team teaching, working with small groups who need remediation or advanced instruction, parallel teaching with the lead teacher, or teaching whole group lessons when appropriate
  • Conduct lesson preparation and student assessments
  • Communicate with families through meetings, phone calls, and other family engagement activities
  • Support, promote, lead, and participate in community service activities at their place of assignment and within the larger community
  • Participate in all required training, professional development, and member support activities
  • Assist with activities before the start of the school day such as breakfast, classroom preparation, or greeting students during arrival
  • Assist with activities after the end of the school day, such as after-school activities, meetings, or phone calls with families, or school-related events
  • Perform other responsibilities which may fall outside of school hours including lesson preparation, student evaluation, and school-based community service activities

Benefits

  • $40,000 base salary over 11 months (Aug-June)
  • $1,500 educational award upon successful completion of service (Aug-June)
