About The Position

The Department of Medicine, Division of Clinical and Translational Research and Interdisciplinary Cancer Sciences Program is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the Experimental and Clinical Oncology course (EXMD 635D1/D2). This role involves managing the course's online presence, coordinating student participation in academic activities, and providing technical and administrative support. The Teaching Assistant will organize and monitor discussion boards, coordinate attendance for tumour boards, manage online quizzes and exams, assist with grading essays, organize lecture evaluations, and communicate with lecturers and students. The position requires attendance at classes (Tuesdays, 3 PM – 6 PM) and a willingness to learn new software and web tools. The role also includes serving as a co-host on Zoom for online classes, ensuring a stable connection and providing technical support.

Requirements

  • Only Current Masters or Doctoral students registered at McGill are eligible to apply.
  • Must be available to attend classes (Tuesdays, 3 PM – 6 PM).
  • Must be willing to learn new software and web tools.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Organization and time management skills.
  • Proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Familiarity with web conferencing technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco WebEx).
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must be willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
  • Proficiency in English communication, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD preferred.
  • Priority will be given to students who have previously taken the course, EXMD 635D1/D2.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing a Discussions Board on myCourses for students to exchange answers to potential exam questions and monitoring the discussion board.
  • Coordinating attendance for tumour boards, sending Zoom links to students, and ensuring no more than two students attend the same session.
  • Organizing quizzes on myCourses, including midterm and final exams accessible through Respondus software.
  • Correction of midterm and final exams.
  • Assisting with the correction of essays.
  • Organizing lectures evaluations, sending links to students, and collecting responses.
  • Sending email reminders to lecturers about the following week's schedule.
  • Receiving PowerPoint presentations from lecturers and uploading them to myCourses.
  • Answering student emails.
  • Attending course sessions as needed.
  • Serving as a co-host on Zoom for online classes to ensure a stable connection and providing technical support.
