About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the POLI 2P91: Political Theory I course for the Fall D2-1 term. This position involves facilitating small group discussions, grading assignments and exams, providing constructive feedback to students, and maintaining student performance records. The nominal workload for this position is 60 hours. Duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation, consultation, marking, proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Political Science with emphasis on political theory
  • Must have successfully completed POLI 2P91 (or equivalent)
  • Must have the ability to clearly articulate the basic theoretical concepts
  • Must have strong essay writing skills
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to observe timelines requested by the Instructor
  • Must have prior documented experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar leadership capacity

  • Facilitating small group discussions that explore ancient political philosophy focusing on the theory and critique of Athenian democracy
  • Grading of assignments and exams
  • Providing thoughtful and constructive feedback with the aim of enriching students' academic experiences in the discipline
  • Maintaining accurate records of individual student performance

  • Other course administration as may be required
