About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the course POLI 2P12: Canadian Government and Politics for the Fall D2-1 term. The nominal workload for this position is 60 hours. Duties include facilitating small group discussions based on assigned materials, grading of assignments and exams, providing thoughtful and constructive feedback with the aim of enriching students' academic experiences in the discipline, and maintaining accurate records of individual student performance. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree in Political Science with emphasis on Canadian political institutions and processes.
  • Must have successfully completed POLI 2P12 (or equivalent) and have the ability to clearly articulate the basic theoretical concepts.
  • Must have strong essay writing skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to observe timelines requested by the Instructor.
  • Must have prior documented experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar leadership capacity.
