About The Position

The Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation, and Human Services is seeking candidates for two Teaching Assistant Professor positions to expand their Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. These are grant-funded, full-time, 9-month positions with the possibility of summer work. Initially, the focus will be on curriculum development and aligning with CACREP accreditation for an online, part-time CMHC track. Following the launch of the online program, responsibilities will shift to a four-four teaching load, with opportunities for service and scholarship, and continued summer teaching funded by the grant. These positions are reviewed annually and contingent on grant funding until September 2031. After grant funding concludes, faculty may be eligible to apply for a tenure-track position, with potential for three years applied towards promotion and tenure. Successful candidates should be passionate about program development, committed to an equitable and inclusive learning environment, and familiar with CACREP accreditation. The department supports various teaching modalities including in-person, blended, and distance learning.

Requirements

  • MA/MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or related field
  • Enrolled in a PhD Counseling Education & Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program (not applicable if PhD already obtained)
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a licensed professional counselor in the state of Wisconsin

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Two years’ clinical experience post-graduation from MS/MA counseling program
  • Evidence of successfully teaching in person and online
  • Demonstrated ability to teach CMHC or closely related courses
  • Familiarity with curriculum development
  • Evidence of meaningful involvement in at least one CACREP accreditation/re-accreditation process
  • Ability to collaborate and develop partnerships across campus and in the community
  • Candidates who have experience working collaboratively with diverse individuals and/or groups and who can contribute to fostering an inclusive environment are encouraged to identify their experience in these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of the CMHC curriculum and program for online instruction
  • Work closely with involved stakeholders to ensure the CMHC curriculum and program meet CACREP standards
  • Engage in clinical practicum and internship site recruitment
  • Teach in-person and/or online CMHC or related courses (e.g., Orientation to CMHC, Group Dynamics, Testing and Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment, etc.)
  • Provide in-person and remote clinical supervision
  • Uphold an environment that supports a culture of respect, civility, and collegiality
  • Actively participate in professional counseling organizations such as ACA, ACES, etc.
  • Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning.
  • Contribute to academic program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
