About The Position
This position is for a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor for the PRINCIPLES OF CHEMISTRY course (CHM1711 LAB) during the Fall 2026 semester. The role involves assisting students in the laboratory and elsewhere, grading lab reports, enforcing safety regulations, and proctoring a final exam. The position is classified under CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees).
Requirements
- Successful completion of one year of general chemistry.
- Successful completion of one year of organic chemistry.
- Successful completion of CHM 2554.
- Successful completion of CHM 2531/2532 or their equivalents.
- Must have successfully completed workshops on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- All persons who are not graduate students in chemistry must pass a qualifying test (unless already completed in a previous semester).
Responsibilities
- Assist students in the laboratory and elsewhere.
- Grade laboratory reports.
- Implement safety directives in the laboratory.
- Proctor a final exam.
- Complete all mandatory legislated training offered by the University.
