About The Position

The CML1611 course (Compétences et habiletés juridiques) is a required course for first-year students enrolled in the French-language Common Law Program and the Canadian Law Program. The course will be taught in three sections, each with approximately 40 students. You will be assigned to one of these groups for the entire academic year. You will advise your peers and also act as a mentor. The approximate time commitment for the semester is about 4–5 hours per week for two semesters. You must also apply for this position for the winter term (Posting No. JR35436).

Requirements

  • GPA of 7.0 or higher
  • Completion of the CML 1611 course with a grade of B+ or higher
  • Excellent communication skills (especially in French)
  • Ability to use technology for teaching purposes
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently while collaborating with the professor and other teaching assistants
  • All applications must include: your resume; a copy of your most recent law school transcript or a copy of your grade report (include your Winter 2026 grades); two references (contact information—letters are not required). All documents must be submitted together in a single PDF file.

  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience is an asset
  • Experience working with the Law Review is an asset

Responsibilities

  • lead seminars/tutorials on topics related to legal research or other aspects of the course (writing, advocacy, etc.)
  • attend some of the classes
  • be available to answer students’ questions regarding two of the assignments
  • meet with course professors as needed
  • proctor legal research quizzes (which will take place in person on campus)
  • provide feedback on student assignments regarding the technical aspects of the McGill Guide and the writing component (three (3) assignments)
  • assist with the First-Year Moot Court Competition (specifically, be available on the Saturday morning of the competition (March 2027) to serve as a court clerk.
