About The Position

This is a Teaching Assistant position for the Introduction to Business Management (ADM 1300) course at the Telfer School of Management for the 2026 Fall Semester. The role involves supporting students through discussion groups, grading, and other course-related duties. The position requires a strong understanding of business management principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead and interact with first-year students. The work will be performed on the Main Campus and requires the candidate to be located in Ottawa for the entire duration of the course.

Requirements

  • Minimum C.G.P.A. of 7.0 (8.0 preferred).
  • Minimum grade of A- in ADM 1300 or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' business education at the post-secondary level, emphasizing management principles, business ownership, and general finance and accounting practices.
  • Thorough working knowledge of solving a business case.
  • Experience in analyzing business cases.
  • Ability to integrate and apply concepts of business and management in practical ways, including using case studies, when working with first-year BCom students.
  • Comfortable and confident in leading and interacting with a class of first-year students.
  • A constructive, helpful, and inclusive attitude and approach with the community of first-year students.
  • Understand and read in English and write and teach in English with confidence at a very high level of fluency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of basic Canadian accounting and financial management analysis skills.
  • Successful completion and comprehension of the material of an introductory level business management course in a Canadian environment.
  • Good knowledge of current business issues and approaches to management.
  • Must be located in Ottawa for the entire duration of the course (with the exception of official University holidays), including through the grading of the final exam and calculation of final grades by the professor.
  • Access to a computer, internet, microphone, and webcam.
  • All DGDs with students are in person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with online course delivery.
  • Experience with online videoconferencing environment (e.g., Microsoft Teams).

Responsibilities

  • Attending and participating in regular teaching assistant meetings, including team-building exercises.
  • Working with a group of approximately 36 students in 10 weekly "Discussion Group" (DGD) sessions.
  • Grading and providing constructive feedback on student work, including group case presentations and weekly case executive summaries.
  • Conducting weekly seminars and demonstrating effective business presentation skills.
  • Demonstrating and leading the case method approach.
  • Addressing teaching problems and handling exercises.
  • Leading discussions on relevant business topics using management cases.
  • Demonstrating competence in and understanding of current Canadian business problems.
  • Leading all discussions in the DGD.
  • Bringing questions, concerns, or issues to the Course Coordinator and/or Course Professor.
  • Proctoring exams.
