About The Position

A Teaching Assistant is hired for first-year large group courses in Torts (CML1107). They must hold weekly tutorials (alternating between Drop-in tutorials and Access/Equity tutorials), and hold Exam Preparation sessions at the end of each term. In addition, they attend the course they are a TA for and assist professors administrative duties. Teaching Assistants will also play a mentorship role in helping students transition into their first year of law school. These positions also involve work during the Fall term - you must also apply to the Fall posting (no. JR34415). Your physical presence is required on campus.

Requirements

  • GPA of 7.0 or higher
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience
  • Aptitude using technology for teaching purposes
  • Ability to take initiative, and to work independently and creatively
  • An awareness of barriers faced by students from equity-seeking groups in educational settings
  • Demonstrated academic excellence (grade of A- or higher) in the course you wish to tutor
  • Taken the course you wish to tutor as a JD student at the University of Ottawa or equivalent
  • Cover letter

  • A copy of your unofficial transcript (include Winter 2026 grades)
  • Two references (contact information)
  • A list of your first year courses with the name of the professor you took each course with
