About The Position

The Teacher provides participants in an after-school setting with instruction in their field of expertise. The role supports students’ intellectual growth by promoting research across academic topics and developing strong content-area skills. The Teacher supports program instructional and enrichment goals by leading activities that challenge and stimulate students.

This is an in-person, part-time role scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; days and shifts may vary depending on site needs. The work is performed mostly within a New York City public school, with possible community interaction during trips or events. At the time of offer and acceptance, the position requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.

Requirements

• NYS Teacher Certification.
• At least 3 years of experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.
• Knowledge of curriculum writing and lesson-plan execution.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, and school partners, including school administration and staff.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to analyze problems and implement solutions in a fast-paced setting, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to obtain required safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.

Responsibilities

• Create and execute lesson plans, evaluate each participant’s progress using a comprehensive grading system, and provide innovative instruction.
• Present content using language appropriate to participants’ age group and as outlined in lesson plans.
• Give participants opportunities to practice and develop their skills through educational and recreational activities.
• Implement a system to support successful delivery of material and feedback between staff and participants.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
