About The Position
The Teacher provides instruction to participants in an after-school setting according to their field of expertise. The role fosters students’ intellectual growth by promoting research across academic topics and developing strong skills in the relevant content area. The Teacher supports instructional and enrichment goals by leading activities that challenge and stimulate students. This is a part-time, in-person position scheduled Monday through Friday, generally from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Days and shifts vary depending on site needs. Work is performed mostly in a New York City public school, with occasional interaction with the broader community during trips or events. At the time of offer and acceptance, the position requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
Requirements
- NYS Teacher Certification.
- At least 3 years of successful experience teaching and instructing youth.
- Knowledge of curriculum writing and lesson-plan execution.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, and school partners, including school administration and staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze problems and implement solutions in a fast-paced setting, with strong attention to detail.
- Required safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health at the time of offer and acceptance.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute lesson plans, evaluate participant progress through a comprehensive grading system, and provide innovative instruction to the group.
- Present content using language appropriate to participants’ age group and as outlined in lesson plans.
- Provide participants with opportunities to practice and develop acquired skills through educational and recreational activities.
- Implement a system to ensure successful delivery of material and establish a feedback system between staff and participants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
