About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is looking to hire a Part-Time Teacher for our childcare program. This role involves assisting the child care program director in ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all children. The Teacher provides proper supervision and discipline, acts as a role model, and assists with the enrollment and onboarding of new children and their parents. Key responsibilities include maintaining communication with parents, implementing lesson plans based on child development principles, keeping the classroom clean and organized, maintaining accurate classroom records, and ensuring compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations. The Teacher also attends and participates in family events and program activities.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in Secondary Education or 2500 hours of documented experience (i.e. Babysitting, Etc)
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to pass a physical
  • Negative TB test
  • Must enroll in a CDA (child development associate) training program within the first year of employment if not already attending or having completed secondary education)
  • Love for children
  • Basic understanding of child development and teaching strategies
  • Patient and able to remain calm when stressed
  • Enjoy reading and singing with children

Responsibilities

  • Assist the child care program director in ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all children.
  • Provide proper supervision and discipline for the children.
  • Act as a role model for the children at all times.
  • Assist with the enrollment of new children and facilitate the onboarding of each child and his/her parents into the Y Program.
  • Communicate with parents on a daily basis.
  • Help implement lesson plans based on child development principles.
  • Keep the classroom clean and in order.
  • Keep classroom records up to date and accurate.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations.
  • Attend and participate in all family events and program activities.
