About The Position

The Roger Bacon Academy is an education management organization that manages multiple award-winning public charter schools in southeastern North Carolina. Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville serves students in grades K - 8. We are seeking outstanding applicants for future openings who have a degree in Education with a heart to inspire young minds. We offer a dedicated Beginning Teacher Coordinator and a staff of Academic Coaches to provide ongoing training and support. This position is potentially eligible for an additional Teacher Supplement in addition to base pay, which is based on the North Carolina State Salary Scale for Bachelor's Degrees. Our curriculum is research-based Direct Instruction, focusing on phonics, penmanship, spelling, grammar, style, mathematics, science, music, and art, drawing from classical sources to provide a strong educational foundation grounded in western civilization. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education is required.
  • Valid teaching certificate from North Carolina in the area for which the candidate is applying.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in another subject area with an approved plan for Lateral Entry with an Initial Teacher License.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry 20 lbs.
  • Dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all professional development and training sessions to learn the effective use of instructional methods and curricula.
  • Take charge of the classroom, maintaining it in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Receive all students enthusiastically and have tasks designated for early finishers.
  • Teach and administer rules for student behavior during transitions, instruction, and out-of-class activities.
  • Review the schedule, pacing, and instructional goals for each subject period.
  • Begin instruction punctually and instruct students in a firm, polite, professional manner with frequent rewards for desired behaviors, primarily using Classical Direct Instruction.
  • End instruction on schedule and transition quickly and smoothly to the next subject or activity.
  • Grade all work honestly and promptly, and tutor students experiencing difficulty.
  • Follow prescribed assessments, benchmarking, and pacing guides for tracking student progress, and promptly enter student data.
  • Seek guidance from fellow teachers, Lead Teacher, and Academic Coach when encountering difficulties in attaining instructional goals.
  • Implement and practice skills and techniques as prescribed after observations by Academic Coaches, Deans, BT Coordinator, or Headmasters, seeking clarification when needed.
  • Keep parents informed about their child's academic progress and solicit parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in transition monitoring and for drop-off and pick-up, loading and unloading.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop and maintain reasonable classroom rules and order.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and evaluate their job performance.
  • Attend grade level and staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and carry out non-instructional duties as assigned.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by the Headmaster or Assistant Headmaster.
  • Produce instructional data reports in accordance with the calendar from the grade’s Lead Teacher and on-site Academic Coaches.
