About The Position

This role involves exercising general and particular professional duties as a teacher in a school, under the reasonable direction of the principal. The teacher will be responsible for planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching pupils according to their educational needs, and assessing, recording, and reporting on their development, progress, and attainment. The position also requires promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils, providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters, and communicating with parents and external bodies. The teacher will participate in staff development, review teaching methods, and contribute to the development of courses and teaching materials. Maintaining good order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school meetings are also key aspects. Responsibilities extend to preparing pupils for public examinations, contributing to the selection and professional development of other teachers, and undertaking administrative and organizational tasks. The role requires availability for 195 days a year, with a maximum of 190 days involving classroom teaching, and a total of 1,265 working hours annually, exclusive of time spent off-site for preparation and marking. Specific teaching hours per week are capped at 25 for primary/special schools and 23.5 for secondary schools. The job description is subject to review and may include other similar duties. Requirements

Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland
Minimum of 3 years’ demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies to provide support and challenge children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs
Demonstrable experience of developing positive relationships for learning with children and young people
Demonstrable experience of working with a range of professionals to meet the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs
Demonstrable experience of and/or continuing professional development in the use of specialist equipment, facilities or skills to meet the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs
Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning
Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post
Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum
Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice
Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its implications
Current working knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to effectively meet the learning needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs
Knowledge and understanding of current assessment methods used with children and young people who have Special Educational Needs
Knowledge of approaches to promoting positive behaviour for learning eg. Restorative Practice
Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies
Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement
Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment
Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible
Ability to seek and avail of opportunities to increase his/her own professional competence as a teacher
Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community
Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others
Ability to or experience of delivering Life Skills Programme for Year 13-15
Ability to assist with the delivery, testing and submission of Key Stage 5 Assessments
Demonstrate experience of writing Individual Education Plans

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 5 years’ demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom approaches to provide support and challenge children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs
Have studied SEN as a subsidiary subject or as an area of specialism as part of teacher training or have 1 years' experience teaching in a Specialist setting/SPIMS
Be willing to complete Team Teaching certification
Demonstrable experience of monitoring pupil progress, performance, target setting and intervention
Demonstrable experience of teaching children in withdrawal groups to support learning
Demonstrable experience of the Annual Review process
Demonstrable experience of assisting with transitioning of pupils from Education to Further Education/Workplace

Responsibilities

Planning and preparing courses and lessons

Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports, and references for pupils
Participating in staff development and performance review schemes
Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work
Participating in further training and professional development
Advising and co-operating with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum development, teaching materials, methods, and pastoral arrangements
Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils
Safeguarding the health and safety of pupils
Participating in school meetings related to curriculum, administration, or organisation
Preparing pupils for public examinations and assessing them for these examinations
Contributing to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction and assessment of probationary teachers
Co-ordinating or managing the work of other teachers
Reviewing, developing, and managing curriculum, organisation, and pastoral functions of the school
Participating in administrative and organisational tasks
Managing or supervising support staff
Ordering and allocating equipment and materials
Attending assemblies
Registering pupil attendance and supervising pupils
Supervising and teaching any pupils whose teacher is not available (subject to specific conditions)
