Provides direct instruction to students identified for special education instructional services to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development. This role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes/students in inclusive and separate settings, as designated in the IEP and by the school administrator. The teacher will provide direct instruction to meet specified IEP annual goals and short-term objectives, as well as general curriculum goals. Responsibilities include documenting and communicating pupil progress, participating in parent-teacher conferences, and ensuring an orderly learning environment through effective teaching and management practices. The teacher will employ a variety of instructional techniques, teach district-approved curriculum, and instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter. Developing lesson plans, instructional materials, and providing individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to individual needs are key functions. Establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior, evaluating academic and social growth, keeping records, and preparing progress reports are also essential. The role requires creating a learning environment through displays and exhibits, collecting and maintaining ongoing data for progress monitoring, and utilizing data to inform instruction and impact the IEP. Participation in interdisciplinary staffing/conferences, developing and implementing Individual Education Plans, and actively seeking necessary services are crucial. The teacher will plan and participate in annual review/IEP meetings, provide required record-keeping documents, identify pupil needs, make referrals, and develop strategies for individual education plans. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, and support personnel, and communicating regularly with parents are also vital. The teacher will plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers, and supervise the assignment of Educational Assistants and volunteers, providing evaluative data.
