About The Position

The Teacher's Assistant helps maintain appropriate classroom activities and an environment where students are safe and able to succeed academically. Under the supervision of the principal, the assistant supports instructional tasks, classroom management, and classroom coverage. The position is generally based in a classroom and is on a 9-month employment basis. Salary and the work calendar are established by the Board; the posting lists a rate of $12.00 per hour and states that salary is based on the EPS Support Negotiated Contract Scale. Health insurance is available for the employee and may be waived in exchange for additional salary. The Superintendent or designee completes the evaluation in accordance with Board Policy and applicable procedural regulations. Duties and physical requirements may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Meet one of the following qualifications: completion of two years of post-secondary education (48 hours), an associate degree or higher, passing the formal State Assessment Test (OGET), or passing the ParaPro Assessment Test.
Evidence of, or willingness to pursue, instructional training opportunities.
Other alternative qualifications deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Board.

Responsibilities

Assist children in various classrooms with instructional tasks as assigned by the school principal.
Assist with classroom management to help ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
Comply with safety and health procedures, school policies, and regulations.
Provide classroom coverage and support needed to foster student safety.
Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information consistent with expectations for fully licensed teachers.
Help supervise students.
