Teacher Resident

Rocketship Public Schools•San Jose, CA

About The Position

Rocketship Public Schools and Loyola Marymount University (LMU) offer a one-year teacher residency for recent graduates and career changers seeking a supported pathway into teaching. Residents receive classroom training and practice while working toward a teaching credential through LMU. An optional second year provides the opportunity to earn a Master of Arts in Transformative Education. Residents are paired with an experienced teacher with the same certification and gradually take on greater classroom responsibilities. After completing the residency, residents may be considered for priority teaching placement at Rocketship California Schools; placement may be at a different network school from the training site. The position combines full-time work in a school with LMU classes and coursework after school. Residents participate in classroom instruction, mentoring, professional development, summer training, and graduate study. Residents may also be required to substitute, with the stated vision that this would not exceed one day per week. The residency includes a $51,000 living stipend. For the 2026–27 school year, LMU offers tuition support that reduces resident tuition by 30–40% compared with an average candidate without the Rocketship partnership. Rocketship California provides $2,000 in tuition support. Residents are responsible for certification-related costs, including testing fees.
