About The Position

This position is for a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) who holds a valid Texas Deaf and Hard of Hearing EC-12 certification. The company is looking for individuals who are tired of feeling burnt out, seek a collaborative team, and want to have more fun at work. The role involves managing classroom schedules, curriculum implementation, student supervision, writing individualized goals, tracking student progress, and participating in educational placement decisions. The teacher will develop and implement educational programs for children aged 12 months to 5 years old, focusing on children with hearing loss. This includes lesson planning, data tracking, student supervision, daily needs assistance, and maintaining communication with parents. The position also involves supervising junior staff, conducting teaching observations, and assisting with before/after school and summer programs. Additionally, the role supports the promotion of DDC programs and ensures the safety of students at all times.

Requirements

  • Texas Certification in Deaf Education.
  • 5+ years in Deaf education or special education setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Managing classroom schedules, curriculum implementation, and student supervision.
  • Writing individualized goals for students and tracking formal and informal data for progress monitoring.
  • Participating in decisions to determine the most appropriate educational placement and plan for each child.
  • Developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all educational programs to align with program participant requirements and the DISH mission.
  • Developing, preparing, organizing, and evaluating curricula for all onsite educational programs.
  • Developing and implementing educational programs for children with hearing loss aged 12 months – 5 years old.
  • Turning in lessons and notes weekly using formal and informal assessments.
  • Keeping up-to-date data on each student in developmental areas and academic skills.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of each child’s hearing and intervention history.
  • Maintaining active watch of students during class time, lunch, transitions, recess, etc.
  • Completing daily amplification checks of student equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Supervising bathroom needs and providing toileting assistance as needed.
  • Collecting and maintaining all required data on students.
  • Monitoring and documenting student progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Completing language, listening, developmental, and academic testing upon enrollment and three times per year.
  • Participating in parent conferences 3-4 times a year.
  • Developing and adapting lesson plans to individual student needs.
  • Assuming direct responsibility for students during school hours.
  • Supervising junior staff to ensure safety and adherence to DISH protocols and procedures.
  • Performing teaching observations with the Education Coordinator.
  • Carrying out and assisting junior staff in developing appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Maintaining appropriate contact with parents regarding child behaviors, classroom management, and parent expectations.
  • Helping with before/after school programs as well as Summer programs.
  • Assisting the Public Relations Manager in the promotion of DDC programs.
  • Providing supervision of students at all times during classes and programs, extending to the release of students to guardians.
  • Maintaining the highest possible degree of safety inside and outside of the classroom and surrounding building areas.
  • Making weekly updates to parents via Brightwheel app.
  • Preparing and distributing monthly and weekly DDC schedules, units, and events.
  • Maintaining positive communication with program participants, their teachers/parents/guardians, and visitors.
  • Participating in teacher meetings and all staff meetings.
  • Maintaining a Texas teaching certificate in Deaf Education.
  • Coordinating activities for volunteers and substitutes assigned to the classroom.
  • Attending field trips, marketing events, and other school functions.
