About The Position

This role is for a Teacher of Mathematics at the Post-Primary level, specifically covering a maternity leave. The position involves exercising general and particular professional duties as outlined in the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987. This includes planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching assigned pupils, assessing and reporting on their progress, promoting their general well-being, providing advice and guidance, communicating with parents and external bodies, and participating in meetings. The role also encompasses maintaining discipline, safeguarding health and safety, preparing pupils for public examinations, and contributing to the review, development, and management of school activities and administration. Teachers are expected to promote good relations, equality of opportunity, and comply with equality legislation.

Requirements

  • Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach Mathematics as his/her main subject.
  • Minimum of 1 year's demonstrable experience of teaching Mathematics to GCSE level (may include teaching practice).
  • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
  • Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement.
  • Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise general professional duties under the reasonable direction of the principal or employing board.
  • Perform particular duties as reasonably assigned by the principal or employing board.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Teach pupils according to their educational needs, setting and marking work.
  • Assess, record, and report on pupil development, progress, and attainment.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and groups.
  • Provide advice and guidance to pupils on educational, social matters, further education, and future careers.
  • Make records and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils.
  • Communicate and consult with the parents of pupils.
  • Communicate and co-operate with external bodies approved by the employing authority and Board of Governors.
  • Participate in meetings related to professional duties.
  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
  • Participate in staff development and performance review schemes.
  • Review teaching methods and programmes of work.
  • Participate in further training and professional development.
  • Advise and co-operate with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum, teaching materials, methods, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among pupils.
  • Safeguard pupils' health and safety.
  • Participate in school meetings related to curriculum, organisation, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and assessing them.
  • Contribute to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction and assessment of probationary teachers.
  • Co-ordinate or manage the work of other teachers.
  • Take part in the review, development, and management of curriculum, organisation, and pastoral functions.
  • Participate in administrative and organisational tasks, including supervision of support staff and ordering of equipment.
  • Attend assemblies.
  • Register pupil attendance and supervise pupils.
  • Supervise and teach pupils whose teacher is not available, subject to specific conditions regarding cover.
  • Promote good relations, equality of opportunity, and pay due regard to equality legislation.
