About The Position

This role involves exercising general and particular professional duties as a teacher in a school, under the reasonable direction of the principal. The teacher will be responsible for planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching pupils according to their educational needs, and assessing, recording, and reporting on their development, progress, and attainment. The position also requires promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils, providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters, and communicating with parents and external bodies. The teacher will participate in staff development, review teaching methods, and contribute to the development of courses and teaching materials. Maintaining good order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school meetings are also key aspects of the role. Additionally, the teacher will prepare pupils for public examinations and participate in administrative and organizational tasks related to the school's curriculum and pastoral functions. This job description is subject to review and may include other similar duties.

Requirements

  • Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach Business Studies in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach Business Studies as his/her main subject.
  • Minimum of six months demonstrable experience of teaching Business Studies at Key Stage 3 and 4 to achieve positive learning outcomes.
  • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
  • Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement.
  • Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.
  • Evidence of how your experience and approach to work reflect the School’s Values/ethos.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
  • Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.

  • Contributing to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction and assessment of probationary teachers.
  • Co-ordinating or managing the work of other teachers.
  • Reviewing, developing, and managing activities related to the curriculum, organization, and pastoral functions of the school.
  • Participating in administrative and organizational tasks, including managing support staff and ordering equipment.
  • Attending assemblies.
  • Registering pupil attendance and supervising pupils before, during, or after school sessions.
  • Supervising and teaching any pupils whose teacher is not available, subject to specific conditions.
  • Promoting good relations, equality of opportunity, and paying due regard to equality legislation.
