About The Position

To teach the sequential skills, content, and attitudes necessary to develop a musically literate student body through exposure, and enrichment opportunities in music. To teach techniques of instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree
  • Arizona Elementary or Secondary Certification with Music endorsement
  • SEI or full Bilingual or ESL endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Teach foundations of playing a musical instrument (orchestra) to pupils.
  • Teach fundamental principles of music theory and musicianship skills.
  • Build musical instrument proficiency.
  • Plan a balanced music and drama program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil and prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Evaluate each pupil’s musical and dramatic growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community.
  • Participate in district-wide festivals, and honor programs.
  • Cooperate with school administration in providing programs for school productions, and civic functions.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of district and school owned instruments, method books, instrument parts and supplies.
  • Control the storage and use of equipment and materials; make minor repairs and request further repairs to instruments as required.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or self-selected professional growth activities and collaborate with colleagues as necessary.
  • Participate in school and district meetings, committees and workshops as appropriate.
  • Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
