About The Position

This is a CTE Teacher position at Lincoln High School. The role involves planning, organizing, and providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will support the School/Building, School Board, District, and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement. This position requires a valid Washington State CTE teaching certificate endorsed in Agriculture and additional endorsements as needed to support courses. CTE Teacher Certification and maintenance of a current CPR/First Aid/AED card are requirements for this position and a condition of employment. If a candidate does not hold a valid WA state CTE teaching certificate, they are expected to enroll and successfully complete the required course of study for CTE teacher certification within 2 years.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Valid Washington State CTE teaching certificate endorsed in Agriculture and additional endorsements as needed to support courses.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED card.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
  • Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Skill in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, and strategizes a program of study based on student learning needs, meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to engage students and provide opportunities for participation.
  • Assesses student growth regularly and provides progress reports.
  • Maintains and issues appropriate grades to reflect student achievement.
  • Refers students for evaluation by District Specialists as needed.
  • Provides guidance to promote student welfare, educational development, and citizenship.
  • Strives to implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assists administration in implementing District policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and encourages students to maintain standards.

  • Utilizes multiple data elements (formative and summative assessments) to plan and inform instruction.
  • Provides other formative assessment opportunities by adjusting instruction.
  • Evaluates student learning and success criteria to modify and improve program effectiveness.
  • Uses Washington State approved student growth rubrics for tracking student growth data.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
  • Supervises students in lunchroom, hallways, school grounds, and any program held at the school under District sanction.
  • Effectively utilizes and provides access to community and District resources and services to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge and skills for success in the position and improving professional competence by participating in professional development activities and training.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.
  • Provides guidance and works with staff members appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
  • Supports appropriate conduct and performance of job duties.
  • Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
  • Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers per District guidelines.
  • Maintains files on latest curriculum guides.
  • Keeps updated on resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence.
