Insight Schools of California (a network of three public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based-instruction to students in grades 9-12 in California. Insight Schools of California serves at-risk students. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to maintain daily attendance, attend instructional sessions, and complete their coursework each day. All teachers provide students additional help, individualized attention, and ongoing communication with learning coaches, and all attend professional development meetings (virtual and in person). Insight staff and teachers contribute to a positive school culture by engaging in meaningful team collaboration and focusing on the needs of all students. Teachers also meet with students during testing and at in-person events. Content teachers create standards-based lessons and meet with their students throughout the week in their virtual classrooms to provide direct and targeted instruction. Teachers regularly analyze student data to create action plans to support students. Content teachers meet as department and content teams to collaborate and share best practices. They are also responsible for the set up of their online courses, the scheduling of live sessions, gradebook maintenance, student support, and the completion of all tasks associated with the start and end of terms.
