About The Position

New London Public Schools is seeking a Teacher for GED for ESL at New London Adult & Continuing Education. This role involves planning and delivering targeted instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) to improve their academic achievement and increase GED exam pass rates across all four subtests: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The position is part-time, for a 10-month term, and reports to the Director of Adult and Continuing Education or their designee. The hourly pay rate is $30.

Requirements

Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with an endorsement in one or more of the following endorsement areas: 088 ESL and 107 GED as applicable.
At least 3 years of teaching experience.
Prior teaching experience in an environment with adult learners and ELLs in particular.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Develop customized instructional content using AI tools to address language barriers and cultural contexts specific to ELLs.
Implement differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse needs of ELLs.
Participate in professional development to enhance knowledge and skills using AI tools effectively to support ELLs academic progress.
Administer standardized assessments including CASAS level tests and GEDReady exams to evaluate ELLs language proficiency levels, skills gains, and readiness for the Official GED exam.
Collaborate with colleagues, grant administrators, and Digital Navigator to continuously improve instructional practices and resources for ELLs.
Facilitate opportunities for staff to share best practices, effective instructional strategies, and insights gained from their experience teaching ELLs in the GED program.
Monitor students' attendance, participation barriers, academic progress, and future plans to identify appropriate accommodations to support student retention and achievement.
Participate in bimonthly data team meetings to analyze classroom performance and Measurable Skill Gains (MSGs), implement data-driven strategies, and maintain accountability for progress toward Priority Area objectives.
Actively pursue professional learning through AI-focused webinars, podcasts, and emerging educational technologies.
Perform other duties in support of Priority Area success as assigned by director.
