About The Position

The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Specialist will provide on-site procedural and curricular assistance to all school-based personnel regarding the education of students with disabilities. This role serves as the principal's designee for ESE staff, coordinating meetings, updating staff on policy changes, and assisting regular education teachers in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The specialist will also help develop IEPs, communicate with parents about procedural safeguards and resources, and ensure efficient IEP meetings. Additionally, the role involves identifying, reporting, and correcting IDEA compliance concerns, implementing IEPs with fidelity, and utilizing the electronic management system for IEP documents. The position requires adherence to all district policies and participation in professional development.

Requirements

  • An earned bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Florida certification in at least one area of exceptionality.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in Exceptional Student Education.
  • Computer skills are required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal’s designee for all exceptional student education (ESE) staff.
  • Coordinate required ESE meetings.
  • Provide information to school-based personnel on policy changes.
  • Assist regular education teachers of students with disabilities to implement the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and monitor progress of IEP goals.
  • Assist staffing committee members in developing appropriate IEPs and ensure parents receive draft IEPs for all annual reviews.
  • Meet with ESE curriculum supervisors monthly regarding curricula, related services, and program delivery systems for students with disabilities.
  • Provide explanations to parent(s) of the Procedural Safeguards and available District resources.
  • Utilize facilitative behaviors for efficient and productive IEP meetings.
  • Assist in identifying, reporting, and correcting IDEA compliance concerns.
  • Report all compliance concerns directly to the school-based leadership.
  • Correct compliance errors identified internally and externally.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure IEPs are implemented with fidelity.
  • Utilize the electronic management system to generate IEP documents.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills.
  • Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
