The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Specialist provides on-site procedural and curricular assistance to school-based personnel regarding the education of students with disabilities. This role supports the principal and ESE staff, coordinates ESE meetings, and disseminates information on policy changes. The specialist assists regular education teachers in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitoring student progress. They also help staffing committee members develop IEPs, ensure parents receive draft IEPs, and meet with ESE curriculum supervisors monthly to discuss curricula, related services, and program delivery for students with disabilities. Additionally, the specialist explains Procedural Safeguards to parents, identifies and corrects IDEA compliance concerns, and communicates effectively with stakeholders to ensure IEP implementation fidelity. They utilize an electronic management system for IEP documents and must adhere to all district policies and procedures, including equal employment and non-discrimination policies. The role also involves participating in training, reviewing current developments in the field, and ensuring adherence to safety rules.
