About The Position

Empower Adult Learners as an English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor at CWI! Are you passionate about helping adult learners build confidence and opportunity through English language acquisition? The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking an English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to provide engaging, student-centered instruction that supports learners in developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for success in life, work, and further education. In this role, you’ll create a supportive learning environment, deliver meaningful instruction, and help students achieve educational and personal goals while contributing to CWI’s mission of transforming lives through education. This is an evening position: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CWI’s Adult Education programs provide life-changing opportunities for individuals seeking to improve language skills, advance their careers, and become more engaged in their communities. As an ESL Instructor, you’ll play a vital role in supporting diverse learners and helping them gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
Basic computer proficiency and experience using educational technology
Ability to create engaging lesson plans and deliver effective instruction to adult learners
Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills
Commitment to supporting diverse student populations and promoting student success

Nice To Haves

Classroom and online teaching experience
Experience teaching adults in a Life and Work Skills ESL program
TESOL Certification
Master’s degree in ESL, TESOL, Adult Education, or a closely related field
Experience teaching adult English language learners with emerging literacy skills
Experience learning or using a foreign language
Experience working with multicultural and multilingual populations

Responsibilities

Deliver English as a Second Language instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
Implement Life and Work Skills curriculum and other assigned instructional content
Develop and utilize lesson plans that support language acquisition and student learning outcomes
Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for adult learners
Adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students
Support student retention through engagement, outreach, and established student contact practices
Monitor and assess student progress toward educational outcomes
Collaborate with supervisors and fellow instructors to ensure instruction aligns with program goals and student needs
Encourage learner persistence and achievement through ongoing feedback and support
Record attendance and track student performance and outcomes
Assist with assessment activities and reporting requirements tied to state and federal funding guidelines
Support orientation, intake, registration, and testing activities as needed
Maintain accurate documentation and follow program policies and procedures
Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as assigned
Work collaboratively with colleagues to support continuous program improvement
Stay current with instructional strategies, educational technology, and adult learning best practices
Convey by words and actions the values expected by CWI
Perform other duties as assigned
