About The Position

The job of "Teacher" is done for the purpose/s of developing students' academic and interpersonal skills through implementing District approved curriculum and/or the appropriate presentations of courses of study; documenting teaching and student progress/ activities/ outcomes; addressing specific academic needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and, providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. This position is for SY26-27.

Requirements

  • Prior success in job related experiences (may include successful supervised student teaching).
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state and district curriculum standards, credit and grading requirements (when applied), appropriate instructional subjects.
  • Abilities to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents/guardians, other school personnel, meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Significant physical abilities include mobility in the classroom, lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/ accommodation/field of vision.
  • University degree in the field of education and/or State of Oregon requirements for a teaching license.
  • State of Oregon Teaching License appropriate to assignment.
  • Oregon Fingerprint and Criminal Check clearance.
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates is required in some assignments.
  • Bilingual Spanish Required.
  • Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards, PBIS, RTI and formative assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Plans Instruction: Selects or writes learning goals based on district outcomes, Oregon Board of Education directives, and student maturity. Determines current student achievement levels. Establishes unit objectives, daily lessons, and evaluates student attainment. Adapts plans for exceptional learners and diverse backgrounds. Selects and organizes instructional materials and equipment. Designs instructional activities. Estimates time for instruction, practice, and evaluation.
  • Establishes a classroom climate conducive to learning: Communicates classroom rules, procedures, and behavioral expectations. Applies principles of sex equity, racial justice, and least restrictive environment. Recognizes the effects of home and community on student motivation and behavior. Encourages appropriate behavior and provides reinforcement. Monitors student conduct and addresses misbehavior. Interacts professionally with students, colleagues, and parents. Resolves conflicts professionally. Uses classroom time effectively. Manages instructional transitions. Coordinates support personnel.
  • Implements Plans for Instruction: Organizes students for learning activities. Communicates learning outcomes and focuses student interest. Provides instruction using various techniques. Monitors learning activities and modifies pace and content as needed. Uses techniques that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Evaluates Student Achievement: Selects and uses tests, observation, scoring guides, student interviews, and other assessment procedures. Collects work samples for portfolios. Designs assessments to determine mastery before activities. Grades and records student progress. Reports achievement to students and parents. Summarizes data on student achievement. Uses data to refine curriculum and plan further instruction. Documents teaching effectiveness.
  • Directs Instructional Assistants: Delegates specific instructional tasks based on assistant skills. Trains assistants in instructional tasks. Supervises and assesses performance of delegated tasks. Assumes accountability for effectiveness and safety of delegated tasks.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to support teacher expectations, develop methods for improvement, and reinforce classroom goals at home.
  • Collaborates with other teachers, school personnel, parents, and community agencies to implement curriculum, improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments and/or skills for students to perform tasks safely and accurately.
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
  • Reports incidents for the purpose of adhering to school, District and State rules, regulations, policies and laws.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of implementing the curriculum and/or supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or to meet credential requirements.
