Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher. This role involves working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects, providing the teacher with information about pupils to assist in the development of appropriate learning behavioral experiences, and assisting pupils in the use of available instruction resources and in the development of instructional materials. Teaching Assistants utilize their skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in areas such as foreign language, arts, crafts, music, and similar projects. They also assist in related instructional work as required and assist students with specific health-related activities, as appropriate. Local bargaining agreements may address the specific duties of Teaching Assistants, specifying in greater detail the terms and conditions of employment, provided they are consistent with applicable law and regulation.
