Teacher Assistant
About The Position
St. Ann's Home & School is hiring teacher assistants for its education department at a residential treatment center and special education school serving children with emotional and behavioral challenges. Teacher assistants support classroom instruction and provide individualized help to students. They also participate in supervision, staff meetings, in-service training, and treatment-team meetings. The position requires the ability to perform a range of physical tasks, including sitting for extended periods, driving, lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, climbing stairs, and physically restraining children. Requirements
- Possess a BA or BS, preferably in a related field.
- Be able to sit for long periods of time, drive a motor vehicle, write extensively, and talk for long periods of time.
- Be able to react quickly, lift and carry up to 20 pounds, climb stairs, and physically restrain children.
- Be able to communicate with other agency personnel, LEA representatives, families, and children.
Responsibilities
- Implement small-group lessons in language and math.
- Assist the classroom teacher in other subject areas.
- Provide one-to-one attention to children who need extra help.
- Participate in weekly supervision, attend staff meetings, and take part in the in-service training program.
- Participate in meetings with treatment teams regarding the children in their classrooms.
- Communicate with agency personnel, LEA representatives, families, and children.
