About The Position

The Teacher Assistant will support the regular teacher in reinforcing learning materials and skills for individual students or small groups. This role involves assisting with instructional activities, maintaining classroom order, and ensuring student well-being. The position requires adherence to school board policies and maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Two years of college or Associate Degree
  • Pass score on work-keys
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Follow school board policy and rules and regulations.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing materials or skills.
  • Operate and care for classroom equipment.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work.
  • Keep bulletin boards and classroom learning displays up-to-date.
  • Assist with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  • Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in oral communication.
  • Assist students in the library or media center.
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work.
  • Check and record student attendance.
  • Collect and record money.
  • Help students with their clothing.
  • Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
  • Alert the regular teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Serve as a source of information and help to substitute teachers.
  • Maintain high ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Participate in in-service training programs.
  • Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
  • Foster good eating habits and table manners.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
  • Assist with supervision of children during regular play periods.
  • Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Superintendent.
