About The Position

The Teacher Assistant works under the supervision of a certified teacher at the Sweet Home location in Amherst, New York. The role supports students individually and in groups with instructional projects, helps teachers by sharing information about students and developing instructional materials, and assists with instructional programs. The assistant organizes and implements developmentally appropriate lessons and activities, reinforces educational goals, attends to children’s individual needs, and helps maintain a healthy, safe, and organized classroom environment.

Requirements

High school diploma.
At least 2 years working as an aide or assistant in an Early Childhood setting.
Teacher Assistant Certification.
CPI Certification.
Strong Early Childhood behavior management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and general computer skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Organize and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Reinforce educational goals.
Attend to the individual needs of children.
Follow busing and breakfast/lunch program procedures.
Attend and participate in weekly and monthly planning meetings.
Maintain a healthy, safe, and organized classroom environment.
Follow site-specific bus-duty policies and procedures to safely escort children to and from their classrooms.
Follow BHSC staff guidelines and codes of conduct, including mandatory meetings, training, and procedures in the employee handbook.
Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Work with individual students or groups on special instructional projects.
Provide teachers with information about students.
Assist students in using instructional resources.
Assist teachers in developing instructional materials and in instructional programs.
