About The Position

The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) is seeking a Teacher Assistant for Digby Elementary School. This is a term position, working 5.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, from November 16, 2026, to June 30, 2027. TCRCE serves approximately 6100 students in twenty-two schools across Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby counties. Requirements

  • Educational Support diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution, including a formal practicum placement
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position

  • Specific health care support training or certification would be an asset (i.e Non Violent Crisis Intervention, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal care functions as determined through the program planning process and under the direction of the teacher(s) when a student cannot, or should not, perform these activities independently. This includes assisting students with physical and mobility challenges, ensuring a safe and respectful environment, assisting with routines (toileting, dressing, feeding, personal hygiene), administering medication, and carrying out medical procedures when trained and authorized.
  • Supports the implementation of identified behaviour management outcomes under the direction of the teacher(s) when a student is unable to self-regulate his/her own behaviour. This involves using appropriate physical interventions, promoting positive interactions among students, and recording data and observations.
  • Works collaboratively as members of the school community, demonstrating ethical behaviours, respecting and promoting student rights, modeling problem-solving and conflict resolution, relaying student information to teachers, participating in required training, respecting privacy and confidentiality, communicating effectively, and following board and provincial policies.
  • Develops and maintains a positive rapport with students, treating them in a respectful, dignified, and fair manner. This includes promoting independence and self-advocacy, respecting student strengths and challenges, maintaining collaborative relationships, and demonstrating patience and understanding.
