About The Position

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for Teaching Assistants to join their team for the fall school year. In this position, you will assist with implementing the day-to-day programming of the 21st Century Learning Center at partner elementary schools. This includes assisting with delivering the BellXcel program curriculum, as well as providing homework help, academic enrichment, and family engagement events. The program runs from 2:45pm-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience facilitating out-of-school-time programming, preferably within underserved communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Academic skills – proficiency in elementary math and literacy.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Love and respect for children.
  • Current American Red Cross Certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid (within 30 days of hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the delivery of relevant and engaging lessons in groups of 12 to 24 students
  • Works closely with supervisors and teachers to develop and implement strategies for student success
  • Prepares and organizes program supplies and tracks student attendance
  • Implements classroom and behavior management strategies to consistently develop a safe and productive learning environment
  • Ensures proper implementation of the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s Youth Development policies and procedures
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Provide safe, secure and educational programs at the afterschool site.
  • Impact the overall effectiveness of the association's implementation of the YMCA mission through youth development.
  • Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds, abilities and identities.
