About The Position

The Teacher Assistant supports a supervising teacher with individual and group instruction, student program charting, and classroom activities. The role may include supporting students’ health and hygiene, assisting with toileting and other activities of daily living, and helping students move safely around the building and campus. The assistant works with students, staff, and community members in a positive manner and helps students stay engaged and on task.

Requirements

High school diploma required.
Ability to work positively with students, staff, and community members.

Nice To Haves

Sixty college credit hours preferred.
Assistance to obtain a substitute certification is provided.

Responsibilities

Assist the teacher in supporting classroom instruction.
Demonstrate understanding of student problems.
Show initiative and creativity with students and their programs.
Follow prescribed behavioral management programs.
Supervise students during recess and lunch.
Ensure students travel safely around the building and campus.
Assist with the physical management of students.
Keep records of daily interactions with students.
Assist with loading and unloading students on buses.
Help students remain engaged or on task during downtime or between activities.
Work with small or individual groups to support or reinforce teacher-prepared lesson plans or activities, including physical activities.
Organize or prepare materials for classroom activities as assigned by the teacher.
Engage in physical and non-physical activities with students.
Assist students with bathroom and toileting needs and other activities of daily living as needed.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
