About The Position

Astor Services is hiring a full-time Preschool Teacher Assistant for its Head Start program, a federally funded preschool serving children ages 3 and 4 and their families through early learning, health, and family well-being services. The position works 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, and assists with delivering educational services in a classroom setting. Duties include supporting instruction throughout the day, supervising children, conducting ongoing assessments, and potentially participating in home visits.

Astor Services provides behavioral and mental health services to children, adolescents, and families in the Hudson Valley and The Bronx. The organization describes its work as focused on nurturing emotional and mental well-being and providing comprehensive care and support.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Create a well-organized learning environment that is welcoming, trusting, and safe for children.

• Manage the classroom effectively and take responsibility for supervising all children.
• Provide varied classroom experiences that support individualized emotional, cognitive, language, physical, and self-help skill development.

• Follow safety and health practices in daily duties to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Assist with classroom instruction, ongoing assessments, and, potentially, home visits.
