About The Position

Easterseals NY is hiring a Teacher Assistant for its Bronx Child Development Center preschool program. This is a 10-month position, with the option to work during the summer extended school year. Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, the Teacher Assistant helps meet students’ physical and emotional needs, supervises the class when the teacher is engaged in other activities, and attends assigned staff meetings and departmental in-service training.

Requirements

High school education or GED.
Level I NYS Teacher Assistant Certification.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Two years of practical experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with transferring children to and from buses and ensure students are accounted for.
Check children upon arrival for physical health and document any issues.
Collaborate with the teacher and other teacher assistants to design developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s holistic development.
Prepare the classroom for planned activities each day.
Maintain a clean environment after activities.
Participate in group activities for students.
Work individually with students on activities specified in their IEPs.
Assist children as needed during meals and snacks.
Ensure children move safely within the building and to and from the playground, maintaining face-recognition procedures at all times.
Use PBIS and social-emotional learning strategies with children.
Help children regulate their behavior when needed.
Participate in meetings and staff development.
