About The Position

The Teacher Assistant supports educational and recreational activities for children ages 5 to 11 in an after-school childcare program in Staten Island, NY. The role assists with curriculum implementation, daily schedules, and group supervision while helping create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment. The Teacher Assistant encourages children’s learning and social and emotional development and works under the direction of the Teacher in Charge, Program Supervisor, and Assistant Program Director.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience working with children, or experience demonstrating transferable skills in communication, organization, teamwork, and problem-solving.
• Ability to supervise groups of children and assist with educational activities.
• Ability to encourage positive behavior and maintain a safe, engaging environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate with program staff and support children’s learning and development.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in education, childcare, after-school programming, or youth development.
• Experience communicating with families and supporting children’s social, emotional, and physical development.

Responsibilities
