About The Position

Astor Services is hiring Preschool Teacher Assistants for its Head Start preschool program, which serves children ages 3 and 4 and their families in early learning, health, and family well-being. The Teacher Assistant supports educational services in a classroom setting, including instruction throughout the day, child supervision, ongoing assessments, and possibly home visits. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with summers off.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Obtain New York State Teacher Assistant Certification within six months of hire.
Experience working with children.
Be a team player with a can-do attitude.
Ability to embrace challenges and celebrate successes.

Responsibilities

Create a well-organized learning environment that feels welcoming, trusting, and safe.
Understand and incorporate the principles of play-based learning.
Manage the classroom effectively and supervise all children.
Provide varied classroom experiences that support each child’s emotional, cognitive, language, physical, and self-help skill development.
Work as a team member.
Provide coverage as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Follow safety and health practices in daily duties to maintain a safe learning environment.
Support instruction throughout the day, supervise children, and participate in ongoing assessments.
Participate in home visits when applicable.
