About The Position

The Teacher Assistant ISS position at West Bolivar Consolidated School District is responsible for supporting teachers in reinforcing learning, administering tests, and assisting students with various academic and daily routines. This role requires adherence to school board policies and maintaining a high level of ethical conduct and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Two years of college or Associate Degree
  • Pass score on work-keys
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

  • Follow school board policy and rules and regulations.
  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing materials or skills.
  • Operate and care for classroom equipment.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work.
  • Keep bulletin boards and classroom learning displays up-to-date.
  • Assist with large group activities like drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  • Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in oral communication.
  • Assist students in the library or media center.
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work.
  • Check and record student attendance.
  • Collect and record money.
  • Help students with their clothing.
  • Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
  • Alert the regular teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Serve as the chief source of information and help to substitute teachers.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Participate in in-service training programs.
  • Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
  • Foster good eating habits and table manners.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
  • Assist with supervision of children during regular play periods.
  • Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Superintendent.
