About The Position

The ISS Paraprofessional provides instructional support to students under the direction of a teacher, working with individuals or small groups. Key responsibilities include assisting with instructional materials, classroom displays, and the administration and scoring of assignments. The role also involves maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, managing equipment inventory, and helping with administrative records and reports. Additionally, the paraprofessional offers orientation to substitute teachers and provides inclusion support. Student management duties encompass supervising students throughout the school day, including during lunch, bus, and playground duties, and communicating student needs to the teacher. The position requires participation in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events, maintaining confidentiality, and fostering positive relationships with colleagues and supervisors. The role may also involve bus driving or monitoring duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Some experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Offer inclusion support to teacher and students.
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain positive and effective communications and relationships with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Assume bus driving duties as assigned.
  • Assume bus riding / monitoring duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
