About The Position

Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its recognized equivalent
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) of college coursework or an applicable number of semester hours as defined by the institution of higher education attended, whichever is less; OR Possess an associate (or higher) degree; OR Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a local academic assessment— Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to use personal computer
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • One-year experience working with children
  • One-year clerical experience

Responsibilities

  • Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
  • Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.
  • Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
  • Distribute, collect, and check student assignments for accuracy.
  • Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Maintain flexibility in job duties when no students are assigned to ISS.
  • Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.
  • Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at designated site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Present positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Comply with all district, local, and campus routines, policy and regulations.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by immediate teacher(s) or principal.
