About The Position

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services for over 125 years, offering numerous programs for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those with mental illness. The Early Childhood Development Centers provide free Early Head Start services for low-income families, serving children aged 6 weeks to 3 years in center-based programs across Brooklyn and Queens. Utilizing the Montessori approach, these centers focus on preparing children for school through developmentally appropriate activities that foster cognitive, social, emotional, language-literacy, and physical development. The program emphasizes active parent engagement, recognizing its crucial role in a child's development, and offers learning experiences tailored to children's evolving needs and abilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed between 5-10 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • 12-24 college credits preferred.
  • CDA credential preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a pre-school classroom preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English; Russian/English; Chinese/English; Korean/English; English/Creole speaking preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Teacher and Assistant Teacher in planning and executing age and developmentally appropriate activities reflecting the Montessori curriculum.
  • Assist the Teacher and Assistant Teacher in maintaining written documentation/reports to meet compliance standards of CCNS, ACS, DOH, CACFP, and other relevant overseeing agencies.
  • Help to facilitate parent involvement in all aspects of the program and promote positive growth and professional development.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established by CCNS, ACS, DOH, DOE, and CACFP.
  • Comply with procedural norms and standards of attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality relevant to HIPPA.
  • Ensure a learning environment based on the Montessori approach that helps children develop physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and creatively.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/families via open communications, training, and other developmental activities.
  • Assist Teacher and Assistant Teacher to complete written observations, progress reports, outcomes reporting, CROWD, and other documents relevant to tracking children’s progress.
  • Assist Teacher and Assistant Teacher to utilize information obtained via observations, conferences, tracking, etc. to design developmentally appropriate and individualized lesson plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
