Works under direction and requires considerable knowledge of teacher education in order to provide individualized instruction to the Ohio Department of Youth Services (ODYS), Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF) Ralph Starsky High School students in special education in assigned subject area and/or pre-career-tech subjects, self-help, leisure time alternatives, physical education, socialization skills & environmental awareness. This role involves assessing educational needs of youth, developing lesson plans to address needs, providing instruction, administering and interpreting examinations, maintaining discipline, security, and counseling students. Teachers also track and record educational information for American Corrections Association (ACA) audits. DYS Teachers can earn from $60,798 - $103,334 depending on education and experience (includes additional 20% supplement). The position offers small class sizes (6-8 students) with students averaging 16-18 years old. Comprehensive paid training will be provided, along with intersession leave (40 days off per year) and additional personal and sick leave. There are no study hall or lunch supervisory responsibilities.
